Printing embedded .bmp

When I receive an embedded .bmp in an email, then click print to a local or network printer, no image prints, just a little box with red X. When I save the .bmp to my desktop, open it in ms paint, it prints fine? I just can not print embedded .bmp's from MS Outlook 2000 sr1. OS- W2k sp4
