Printing envelopes with superscript (data merge and ordinals)

I'm using office 2004 on my mac to create wedding invitations. When I
enter an ordinal, say "1st," the "st" should be superscripted. It is
not. So I went to the data source and auto formatted. All of my
ordinals became superscripted in that document. Great, or so I thought.
But when I go to print my envelopes in the main document, the "st" is
no longer superscripted. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Here's one way to get Word to superscript retroactively, instead of as you
type. Test this on a COPY of the document.

In Word, go to Tools | AutoCorrect.
Click on AutoFormat.
Uncheck every box, *except* for "ordinals with superscript" under Replace.
(You might want to Preserve Styles, but it depends on whether you used them
in the first place)
OK to exit.

Then go to Format | AutoFormat, and select it.
You should be able to OK the dialog to AutoFormat Now (without setting it to
review every change), and have it change all the ordinals to superscript.

If you just want it to apply the ordinal as you type, then you need to check
the appropriate box in Tools | AutoCorrect | AutoFormat As You Type.

If Word shows the ordinals in Print Preview but is not printing them as
such, that's an entirely different problem.
