Printing Error with msvcrt.dll

Having a printing problem all of sudden with Word 2000. If a file is more
than 4 or 5 folder levels deep, Word will no longer print the file. I get an
error with the following:
Mod name: msvcrt.dll
App Ver.: 9.0.0.2717
Offset: 00033ec0
Mod Ver: 7.0.2600.1106

Computer is a Dell Dimension 2400.
Printer is a Dell A920.
OS: Windows XP

I noticed if I drag that same file out of the folder to the desktop, it
prints fine. Why can I no longer print Word documents buried deep in a folder
stack? Tried running Norton System Works, re-loaded Word, and re-loaded my
print drivers. Nothing helped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the limit for 'depth' is related to the path length limit of 255
character; but why it should bring up an error in the Visual C run time
library is a bit confusing. Does the total path length exceed 255 characters
when you get this problem?

Hi Terry:

Thanks for your help with this. I counted the characters on the full path
name and it's 135. I've been experimenting this afternoon with this problem.
I took a Word file that prints fine when placed in one or two levels of
folders (down fro the Desktop)and brought it down step-by-step to five
levels. Seems once it hits that fifth level of folder, it just will not
print. Have you ever heard of this happening before? If you have a few
minutes, try it on yours and see if the same thing happens. I've been working
with Word since about 1988 or so, and this is the first time this issue has
ever come up. Perhaps it's the first time I've had this many levels of
folders??? But five just doesn't seem that excessive. Any ideas on this?
Thanks.
