Printing fill effect patterns.

I am trying to produce some simple designs using autoshapes containing
pattern fill effects in Word (XP Pro 2003 ).
When I print them out on my HP 5650 printer they have twice as many "dots"
per inch as they have on screen.
Can anyone suggest why this is happening?
I vaguely remember reading something somewhere that it might be due to the
printer resolution - 600+dpi. If this is the case, is it possible to alter
the printer resolution or do I have to buy a new printer.

Hi Gwen,

In the Printer properties for your printer
in File=>Print you can often reduce the DPI
setting or change the graphics print setting.
Unfortunately you may need to drop down to 150
DPI to see a difference. You can choose a
different pattern with wider spacing in some cases
to have the desired effect when printing or cut
the autoshape as a different format, although
different Word versions seem to get better while others
worse as far as the granularity for the same paste
type.

Your onscreen resolution is 96 Pixels per inch.
