Printing Folded Pages

E

Edward

Hi, everybody.

I am using Publisher 98.

I have been asked to prepare a 4 page folded insert for a hard-cover hotel
brochure. Page 1 is simply a Welcome and Page 6 is a picture and the
address. The two middle pages are pictures and text for rooms, restaurant
etc. The whole is then manually stapled into the hard cover which is a
centre fold which has already been printed.

My problem is... The paper size to be used is A3 (29.65 cm x 42 cm) which
will then be guillotined into two identical halves. Printing will be in
landscape so as to finish with two inserts per sheet with 4 pages, each 21
cm wide x 14.8 cm high.

I hope you can understand this..!!

When I set this up in 'Page setup and Print setup, Publisher will not accept
the size. I Page setup, Preview will not show a 'Special fold' but shows a
single sheet with a thick line forming a rectangle.

Would this be because my HP 950C DeskJet is not suitable for the paper size
or is there something I have missed.

I printed a 4 page A4 insert with no problems.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ed

I would suggest trying this (messy, but it could work).
Fold the A3 into A4 size. Now print both sides. Unfold, and fold the other
way. Now reprint both sides. Then guillotine.
If that didn't work, then I would probably print on A4. It makes things
easier.
The HP DeskJet 950C does not accept A3-sized paper without folding. I have
it. I know :)

Thanks for that, Ed. However, what I really need to know is.... why can't I
prepare an A3 folded brochure insert on my PC but for another PC and
printer that can take A3?

Do I have to use a PC with a printer installed that accepts A3?

Yes, but you can install a printer that you don't actually have.
I suggest installing the driver for the printer that it is going to be
printed on - failing that, an Acrobat Distiller, failing that, an HP DeskJet
1220C or something.

Thanks again, Ed.

Looks like good advice. If I get it done soon, I'll let you know how I get
on.
