I am setting up a dispatch program using Access97 to print shipping
labels via our network to a Zebra S400 label printer. I can get the
label printing okay, but the issue is the time to first print -
sometimes as long as half a minute. I understand the windows to printer
language is an issue and the S400 has very limited processing power.
Even with third party Windows drivers the lag is unacceptable. I have
eliminated the network as part of the problem - I get the same lag with
the printer connected locally.
The label is generated from a Report and is a mix of text (TTF) and
barcodes. (Code39). According to the print queue the file size is 36k?
Has anyone any first hand experience with such a set-up and overcome
the time lag to first print? Am I wasting my time with the current
printer?
Any help gratefully appreciated.
