Printing Gridlines

I have been using Auto shapes with transparent shading and show gridlines checked to help teach area during maths lessons. The children have created their own shapes and work out the areas of them using the gridlines. We would like to make a display of their work but want to print the gridlines as well as the shapes. I have a feeling this is not possible unless anyone knows different?

You'd have to construct the grid manually, using drawing lines or a table
with exact cell height and width.
