Printing Handouts

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I was wondering if anybody knew why and how I can change the fact that when I want to print a handout the slides show up very far apart and are therefore very small? I need to make the slides closer together so they will appear larger. Thanks for any help.
