Printing Label Reports

I have a label report that prints labels on a usb label
printer attached to my pc. My assistant also needs to
print from the same report on her pc to the same printer
on my pc. But when she does, she gets an error like this:

the document was previously formatted for the printer [X]
but that printer isn't available. do you want to print
to the default printer [Y]?

What's up with that? Anyone got a solution?

Unless the printer has the same name when observed in both of your "printers"
folders, then you'll need to change the report so it uses the default printer instead
of a specific printer and then manually select the label printer for that report
whenever it is printed. If I remember correctly Win9x gives you full control over
the names in your printers folder, whereas NT, 2000, and XP, only give you this
control over local printers. Those that are shared on the network always end up
looking like...

LocalPrinterName on ComputerName

If you set up the printer on your machine a second time but go through Network
Neighborhood to do so, you might be able to have it so that you both use the same
network printer name and change the Report to use that.

This would appear to be a Windows problem, not an Access problem per
se. Try opening the Printers folder in My Computer, and add the usb
printer as a network printer on your colleague's machine.

Thanks for the reply Rick, but no help. You're right
about the helpful new XP feature, which doesn't allow
full control over printer names. And that's the
problem. Setting it up locally, as a network printer,
doesn't solve the problem.

I'm currently trying to setup the printer on the server
via a usb-to-cat5 "print server" device. But I'm running
into some snags. Regardless of whether that work-around
works, you'd think Microsoft would have an easy way out
of this, eh?
