I use an HP LaserJet 6L printer, fitted with a Centre Adjustable Spacing
(CAS), to allow the printing of envelopes and labels. I use Avery J8163
labels, which comes as an (almost) A4 size sheet, with two columns of seven
labels, each label being '99.1x38.1mm' in size.
Normally, when I want to print out a single label (after designing and
selecting a single J8163 label) I cut the J8163 sheet in half, removing the
small top and bottom portions and put it (1x7 labels) into the CAS. Using
Word 2002, previously used Office '97, I had no problems, as I would get my
single printed label at the top of this strip of seven labels. However,
using this procedure with Word 2003 (from Office 2003), I ran into problems.
Because the J8163 sheet has two columns, default being one, and with the CAS
being in the centre, the printing would occur on the far LHS of the label
with only the small amount of the printing occurring on the label.
Similarly, setting the column to two, printing would occur on the far RHS,
with only a small amount of the printing appearing on the label.
I tried designing a label, which I imagine is the solution, but I ended up
with a label size bigger than its sheet, which I did solve. I did try the
entire page of J8163, leaving on the top and bottom strips, but the printing
went a bit haywire, due to the vertical spacing being a bit out, with half
an address on one label and half on another label (in the same column).
Any suggestions please?
