Printing or Exporting Comments attached to Shapes

Is it possible to export or print the comments attached to any and all shapes
in a Visio diagram? If so, how does one achieve this? By the way, exporting
to either EXCEL or WORD would be prefered.

you'd probably have to write some code to do that. the reason is that it
isn't as simple as just checking the shape sheets of the objects since some
comments may be stored on the page (annotation portion of page shapesheet)
with a pointer to the area of the shape, not necessarily a direct linkage.

Thanks Al for the explanation. Unfortunately that sounds like a real pain to
achieve what should be a simple thing. When you go to the Export (or
Reporting) function in Visio, you can select anything and everything,
including: "Displayed Text", "Height", "Shape Name", "X and Y Location", etc.
etc. The item missing on the list is "Comment". Given that a Comment is
attached to something by simply highlighting a shape and clicking "attach
Comment" I would have thought that the text in that comment would be easily
retrievable. But I guess it's not.

Here then is my bottom line issue: I have a lot of comments attached to many
shapes to further define the reason and functionality of the shape. In short,
my comments are part of the documentation. If I want to share this
documentation with others, or simply print a copy of the diagram, I would
love to have those comments printed as well. But as it stands, the comments
are invisible to all except those opening the diagram with visio and "mouse
over" the indivitual shapes. That's a real drawback / limitation of the tool.
