Printing out tables

G

Garamond

For any copy editors out there, a question about printing out tables:
I'm learning copyediting; on my current assignment, the style sheet's
word list is in table format, rather than appearing as a list. My
printer printed out all pages of the style sheet except for the word
list. Where that should have appeared is a blank page, with the words
"Word List" at the top, so that much got printed. I suspect a format
issue, but don't know how to get to something that my printer will
recognize. Any ideas?

I wonder if it is indeed a table? If it were, it would have printed. I
think it may be a "picture". Type professionals often don't know Word well,
and do things as pictures that would be better expressed as tables.

Go to Word>Preferences>Print>Include with Document and ensure "Drawing
objects" is turned ON. That would do it...

The other thing that it could be is a table set outside the printable area.
Go into File>Print Preview and check: if you can see it there, it should
print. If you can't see it in Print Preview, check Format>Font: make sure
the text is not set to "Hidden".

Hope this helps

There have been some issues with printing tables that we are currently
tracking down. My suggestion is to (a) follow John's suggestion, he may be
right - it could be drawing. That failing (b) try to print it from Windows
Word (if available). If that works, then there is an issue with MacWord. At
this point, I would like you to send me the document if you can. You could
try playing around with the table properties (if it is indeed a table) too
and ses if that fixes issues. Additionally, try to print on more than one
printer, try pressing the Preview button (is it missing from the preview
too?)

Let me know how this goes,
