Printing page numbers in a Word 2000 document.

Milburn

I am unable to print page numbers in a Word 2000
document. I had Word 2000 installed on my hard drive and
it was working very well. Then my hard drive died
an "untimely death." I then installed Word 2000 on my new
drive. However, I'm unable to print the page numbers in
my documents. Before I would click on "Insert." Then I
clicked on "Page numbers." Then I clicked on "bottom of
page (footer)" with "aliment" on "center". Then I clicked
on "Page numbering." Then I clicked on "Start at: 1."
Then I clicked on "OK." Page numbers are inserted at
bottom of pages in document. However, they are "grayed
out" and will not print. What am I doing wrong? I would
would be eternally grateful for any help anyone could give
me in solving this problem. Before my old hard drive
died, the numbers would be "grayed out" but they would
still print correctly in my documents. Thanks for any
help anyone can give me with this problem. I am using
Windows 98.

Hi Milburn

The most likely cause of this problem is that the page numbers are too close
to the bottom of the page for the printer to cope with.

First, see
The bottoms of my pages don't print

Maybe you had customized the settings on your old drive. To check, at File >
Page Setup, check the paper size, the margins and how far the footer is to
be from the edge of the paper. If this turns out to solve your problem, go
to File > Page Setup again, and click Default. That will make these settings
the default for any new documents you create.

Finally, maybe you had installed a special printer driver on your old drive.
Go to the website of the manufacturer of the printer, and download the
latest drivers for your printer for your version of Windows and Office.
Then, at File > Print, make sure you're choosing the correct printer.

Hope this helps.
