Printing postal bar code vertically

When printing a bar code vertically, instead of
horizontally, Word 2003 doesn't print the bar code
although when I go to print a single envelope - the
postcal bar code prints when the envelope is feed through
the printer long ways (the short, right hand side of the
envelope is inserted first) so I know it's not a lack of
function from the printer.

How are you trying to place the vertical bar code? I would avoid the use of
text boxes containing fields, and for labels the process for putting
horizantal and vertical fields is complex and described (for numbers) in the
latter parts of http://www.gmayor.com/Numbered_labels.htm. If you are using
envelopes, then this could be a challenge, but if you were to create a table
on an envelope template, you could rotate the contents of the cell
containing the bar code. Whether it will work is anyone's guess and as we
don't use address bar codes on this side of the Atlantic, difficult to test,
but it sounds OK in theory.
