Printing: Print to File/Microsoft Document Image Writer

First of all, I have a LaserJet 1100. (I am not sure if it matters)

I notice one of the options in the Print menu is Called "Print to
File" . Can someone enlighten me on this option. (The file is saved as
..PRN)

As well as the option on the list of Printers "Microsoft Document
Image Writer" (The file is saved as .MDI)

I would like to know if it possible use this option to save a file to
a disk, and have the file printed using a Color Printer.

All this does is direct the output from the printer driver to a file
instead of to the printer. It's exactly the same data.

You can direct this file to a printer (using the "copy" program using
the binary option) and it will print (assuming the file was created
using a printer driver appropriate for the Color Printer). Run "copy /?"
to get the parameters to use.

The file extension is not important, nor does it matter at all.

This technique often used to create PostScript files which are useful
for things other than simply printing.
