Printing problem

B

Bill

I am using Office XP with a 2000 operating system.

When I print in Word I get this message, "The margins of
section 1 are set outside the printable areas of the
page. Do you want to continue?"

If I click "Yes" the page prints about 70% to 80% smaller
than it should. It looks fine in print preview but I
still get the error message. I am using a laser printer
that I know will print to the defined borders because I
have used it for about 3 years with no problem.

This happens on single or multiple page documents, new or
saved documents (that have printed fine in the past). I
have changed the margins for a particular document,
changed the default margins, to no avail.

HELP!

The 70-80% size reduction you're getting is very commonly the result of
printing an A4 document on Letter sized paper or vice versa. Even if the
settings were correct in the past, various operating system glitches can
reset them.

Word reads the settings from the printer; it is telling you that your
document settings don't match your printer settings.

There are two parts to this problem:

1. Your printer's page settings. Bring up the printer properties dialog
(from the Control Panel, not from Word), and go through ALL the tabs. The
page size (and margins, if they are settable) will be in at least two
places: Device Settings and Printing Preferences.

2. Word's paper and margin sizes.

Bill,

I'm having a similar problem with trying to print
envelopes. Please let me know if you find a fix, and I'll
do likewise.
