Printing Problems from a button on a form

my department has generated a DB that resides on a network
drive at work. Within this Db there is a form
(switchboard) that allows input parameters and then you
choose a report...one report inparticuar if chosen prints
to a networked printer that is not even installed on the
pc generating the report. With this being said, since the
user can not even choose the printer in print
manager...haw can access direct a print job 2 floors away
from the requesting pc??? I have submitted a request to
our in-house IT department and they make the claim that it
is an ACCESS problem. Now I don't admitt to knowing
everything about ACCESS but I was under the impression
that office products will use the "DEFAULT" device
(especially when using the shortcut buttons on the menu)
and a best if you choose file-print- and then choose a
printer that is actually installed on the pc. I am
thinking that this is a network or registry issue???

I can print this very same report(from the network) at my
desk (which is in another building)...and it goes to my
default printer.

please advise

I take it from what you have written that a default
printer has been set up for the individual report and
that a choice is not an option upon printing. in other
words, you do not see the report before you print it. and
then choose print? It is set up to automatically print
when you choose the report? We have an issue also with
one of my dbase where one of the users cannot print some
of the report to printers that she is networked with, she
can only print to the one she is directly attached to. I
believe her problem to be the operating system, Windows
98 where the rest of us have XP Pro.

Correct,

the report is a button on the form. When you input the
parameters...you have a choice of about 4/5 reports...the
odd thing is that every other report prints fine( to the
default printer)...just the one will not print..from the
form. However, if i go into the reports (from the backend)
and open it in design view and choose the printer...i can
do this...but that defeats the purpose of keeping the user
out of the backend of the report and only allowing them
access to the entry parameters...

I do believe there is a network problem since it is only a
set of users on a certain floor...but I wanted a
confirmation to take to the IT department (because they
are denying the network issue)...they said it is a DB
issue...but I know...ACCESS is supposed to print to
printers set up on the PC. and I know we do not have any
additional code driving any printing functions.

Any input is greatly appreciated...

thanks,

Ashanti

Go into the report in backend and in design view go to
page setup. There you will see an option for the
printer. If it is set at a specific printer then the
other users will possibly recieve an error. Try changing
all of them to DEFLAULT Printer. And make sure that you
save the report before you close because it will allow
you to close it without asking you if you want to save.
Save it then close it.
