Printing problems Office XP with HP Laser Jet 4100N

My colleague writes:

When printing from Word, jobs hit printer as CUSTOM and
require MANUAL feed from TRAY #1. When printing from
Outlook, print correctly: AUTOMATIC from TRAY #2. Looking
at Page Setup in WORD shows that the Paper Size should be
LETTER, but instead it is CUSTOM. LETTER is not on the
list. All new documents are also created as CUSTOM.

How do I restore the LETTER option?

I have installed and re-installed the 4100 HP Laser
software with no improvement.
