Printing Problems with Sections in Word

B

Bill Collins

Hi everyone,

Just bought a Xerox printer that does double-sided printing. I'm
having a problem with printing sections in Word; when a new section
starts on the 'back' of a page that has already been printed (the new
section begins on an even-numbered page), Word will leave a blank page
and start the new section on a new page. (So even-numbered pages in a
new section will start on a new page). Simply put, I'm getting blank
pages at the end of sections if the new section starts on an
even-numbered page.

I'm pretty familiar with the different kinds of section break options,
but this doesn't work. (I'm using 'next page' for the new section.)
There are no extra paragraph returns or other characters at the end of
the previous section. I have a feeling this is related to how Word
treats each section as a separate print job.

Any help greatly appreciated! Many thanks,

Bill

You are very probably right. Print to PDF to confirm your worst fears.

Not all section breaks force a new print document. It should only be
where margins or orientation change. You might be getting smacked by
"first page different" in your template, if something in the different
first page has triggered a margin change.

It is very unpredictable. I for one, could use a reliable recipe for
predicting and avoiding document breaks.

Of course, starting a new section on an even page of double-sided is a
typographical sin. Word and your printer are ganging up to give you a
bit of class ;-)
