Printing Problems

A

Alastair Hill

I have just finished setting up a Peer to peer network consisting of three
desktops and two laptop PC's. Both the laptop's are running Win XP, one is
running Office 2000 and the other Office XP. On of the desktop has a
parallel HP DeskJet 5550 printer attached to it. I have from the laptops
added a network printer. The printer prints fines from the Laptops when they
are connected to the network. When the laptops are disconnected from the
network, and the mouse goes over the print icon in office, I get an abnormal
shutdown of Office.

Can any one help me or point me in the right direction.

Kind regards

Alastair

Hi Alastair,

The problem could be due to using a printer driver on the network
rather than a local driver. The Office apps determine the available
fonts, printable area, etc. from the printer driver. If it is not
found then the application can crash.

Try removing the printer and installing it again using the Add Printer
Wizard, so the driver will be installed locally, and see if that
resolves the problem.
