Printing Properties problem

R

Rob Gould

Hi all,

Posting this on behalf of my mother. She tells me that in MS Word,
she cannot change her printer properties (i.e. File, Print,
Properties). When she does this, the mouse freezes and when she moves
it, she gets that beeping sound as it goes. She then has to restart.
She can change properties from printer setup in control panel, as well
as from other applications such as Outlook Express. Any idea as to
what the problem could be?

Thanks….Rob

Sounds like a possible IRQ conflict. Have you checked the Device Mgr
for any 'yellow' X's? It may be corrupt mouse drivers that can be
resolved by re-installing the mouse drivers. Start/Settings/Ctrl/System
icon/Device Mgr...if anything is yellow, that means it's a problem area.
If the problem is less than 5 days old, you can follow the advice Shep
gives --- get to DOS prompt ... boot up and press F8 until it gives the
options for booting...then select C prompt only. At the C:\Windows...
type CD then press ENTER. At the C:\ type scanreg /restore
and
then press enter. Notice the space between scanreg and the /. Also
notice no space between the / and restore.
HTH.

I'd try deleting the printer and reinstalling it again. Make sure you have
the latest drivers

Hi Rob,

Is she able to see the Print dialog box? What do you mean by
"beeping"? Does the beep occur when you click the mouse?

If she does not see the Print dialog box then she could be
encountering a known conflict with Norton AV. Norton has an option
called the "Office Plug-in" that can cause dialog boxes to appear
behind the application window.

If she also uses Norton and notes a flashing task in the Windows
Taskbar then disable the "Office Plug-in" found in Norton Options
under the Miscellaneous section.
