Printing Publisher Documents on HP Printers

B

Bob Brown

Hi,
I am having problems printing pre-defined documents from Publisher 2003 on
both of my HP Office Jet Printers. The Printer always cuts off the bottom of
the form when it prints. The only successful work-around so far is changing
the documents and moving the bottom up a couple lines to adjust for the
cutoff. When I use the high speed printers at the office, there isn't any
problem and the documents print fine. Any suggestions will be appreciated
except buy another printer.
Thanks in advance!

Related Information for Microsoft Publisher - Printable Margins

The most common printers in use today do not support full bleed. Full bleed
means that the printer is capable of printing to all the edges of the paper.
When a printer does not support a full bleed, you will find that certain
edges of your printed page will be cut off, showing only white space. This
is a limitation of your printer, not Publisher. You will either need to buy
a new printer that supports full bleed, or print to an oversized piece of
paper, then trim. Otherwise, determine your printable margins and adjust
your publication accordingly. To determine your printable margins, perform
one of the following:
---------------------------------------------
Use Wordpad to find out your printer margins:

1. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Wordpad
2. Go to File > Page Setup > Margins Section
3. Enter "0" for all four margin settings
4. As you enter "0", the margin setting will show you the measurements that
your printer is limited to.
5. Use these measurements in Publisher when designing your publication. I
recommend you go to Arrange > Layout Guides in Publisher and enter these
margins.

**Of note: "However, this method relies on your printer driver reporting the
maximum area correctly. Some drivers do not correctly report their maximum
print area, so you must manually measure your print area." - Ed Bennett
----------------------------------------------
Use Publisher to find out your printer margins:

A commonly-suggested way is to draw diagonal lines across the page, however
this is the least accurate of the manual methods, which is why my preferred
method is to draw pairs of vertical and horizontal lines spanning the entire
page. Once you have printed out your lines, you can draw in lines joining
the ends of each parallel line with a ruler, and measure the distance of
these from the edge of the page. You can then input these values into the
Arrange > Layout Guides dialog, and make sure that you never exceed your
maximum print area.

Might be the limitation of your printer's margins.
Open WordPad, page setup, input zero into each margin, WordPad will default to your
printer's specifications.
Your office printer probably doesn't have the same limitations.
