PRINTING QUESTION

When I want to print a document from my finder, I ctrl-click to open up
the menu and then click on print. The only thing that happens is MS
Word opens to a blank page but the document I want printed does not
print. I have to open the document in word and then print. Is there a
way of getting around this problem so that when I ctrl-click and then
click print it will?

Thanks

Hiya,
When I ctrl+click on word document it opens the document and print dialog
pops-up. Seems then the problem is on your side - I would try to
re-associate *.doc document with Word again. To do that ctrl+click on any
word document>get info and in section open with re-set word and check change
all.
Vrrify and repair disk permition is second thing I would do if you haven't
run it previously.

Actualy I think there is more to it...

I haven't experienced this exact issue 'cause I never print that way, but I
have noticed the same behavior if I attempt to print a Word doc using a
desktop printer icon - which is essentially the equivalent of using the
shortcut menu. Any other type of file behaves as expected, which is variabel
in OS X. Either the file opens in the appropriate app with the print dialog
displayed or goes directly to the printer - it depends on which app. Word
docs just launch Word with a new "Document1" displayed as described by the
OP.

File association must be OK otherwise Word wouldn't launch. Permissions is
not an issue in my case as I know they are recently repaired - something I
do more frequently than most users.

I haven't had time to check it out further but will let you know if I can
figure it out - unless someone else has some insight on the problem.

Okay. Quick test here suggests that:

If MS Word is already open, then control-click Print works fine to bring
up the document and the Print dialog as it should.

If MS Word is NOT already open, then control-click Print opens Word and
does nothing else.

My machine: Office 11.2.6 (I think), OS X 10.4.8
