Printing results in missing pieces of the document

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I am using an iMac v10.6.2. I ham printing to a Lexmark T520. I have downloaded the latest driver from Lexmark, 10.6.0.0. When I attempt to print a word document, there are missing words, sentences and sometimes entire paragraphs from the document. I can print from any other application without a problem. I have been forced to copy the entire document into TextEdit in order to print a clean copy. Can anyone explain how I can fix this issue? Thank you.

Sounds like you might not have installed the updates for Office 2008.

Some updates for Office 2008 are essential to make it run in OS 10.6.2.

Go to Help in Word and run the "Check for updates" item.

When you have finished, shut down your system all the way to power-off, wait
a few seconds and re-start. That triggers some Unix cleaning up of the
system that may fix the issue.

Cheers

Have you tried saving the document as a PDF?

File > Save As...

Select PDF in the Format pop-up. Then save.

Open up the saved PDF and print that.

Is this happening with *all* documents, one specific document...?

What is the source of the file(s) involved?

What more detail can you provide about the structure of the documents having
the problem?

This can be a difficult problem to find. I need a lot more detail about
your documents to be able to help you.

Word was up to date. I shut down the machine just for kicks but it did not
help.

Yes, this works. I can print the file once it is saved as a PDF. Of course, this is not ideal but it is a work around for now.

Yes, this is happening with "all" documents. One document is a letter I composed and saved as a docx. This file prints without one line in the middle of the letter. A second document was created by cutting and pasting from a web page. The third document was saved as a Word-97 compatible doc. None of the documents print correctly.

The following are some errors that are found in some system.log

Yeah, got it.

That indicates that the files associated with the Lexmark printer driver on
that Mac are missing or corrupted or at the wrong version.

I had the exact same issue with my hairdresser's MacBook Pro the other day.

The cure is:

1) Remove the printer entirely in System Preferences.

2) Go into the /Library/Printers folder and remove the Lexmark folder
(delete it).

3) Now, go back to System Preferences and "Add" the printer again. At that
stage, the system should complain that files are missing and offer to run
Software Update for you. If it doesn't, before trying to print anything,
run Software Update.

That should then "discover" that you need a printer driver update and
install it for you. The trick is to remove both the printer and its
preferences. Then when the system attempts to add the printer, it discovers
it has an out-dated driver.

Sorry this is a bit unclear, I am currently on an aircraft and I don't have
a Lexmark printer. If you need proper details, ring Lexmark support.

Cheers

John,

Please see my posted reply to CyberTaz.

John, big sigh. I followed your directions but it did not solve the problem. I guess its back to the hairdresser for us :)

At least when I go to the hairdresser, I know what's going to happen :)

John, I solved the problem using brute force. I reloaded 10.6.0, repaired disk permissions, reloaded the 10.6.2 combo upgrade, loaded all the software updates from that point, fixed the disk permissions again and finally restarted my imac for the nth time. After all that was done, I was able to print!!

I did this all without my hairdresser and what is even better, without YOUR hairdresser.

Thanks for your help and your humor.

Hi Mark:

I am so pleased to hear this, particularly the bit about not needing the
hairdresser, because mine slaps me. Frequently... :)

Cheers
