Printing text boxes in WORD X- CD labels

P

I am attempting to print labels for a CDROM. I have started out with
Avery's Word template (Avery 5931CD.doc). Since that template is a
table with no references for the edge of a round CD label, I inserted
a text box over the table and created a circle for the outside edge
and another for the inside hole. On top of this, I inserted several
text boxes for the text that I want to appear on the CD. Once the
actual text was in the correct place, I went back and eliminated the
circles by choosing "no lines". I can see the text in page layout and
print preview, but not in Normal view. My prinouts are blank, no text
at all. I have "Drawing objects" checked in the Preference menu. Why
won't the text print even though I see it in Preview mode?

There isn't a circular template somewhere that you could use? But really
I'm only posting in order to repost the answer from John McGhie, mistakenly
dated 1/6/04--presumably you didn't see it, since you didn't respond to it.

"Good question:

I will take a wild guess: the circles you have contain a "fill" of white.
And they are layered above the text on the printer. This could be due to
the bug that reverses the layers of a Word drawing when you print.

You can try selecting the text boxes you want to print and choosing "Bring
to Front" (or "Send to Back" if your printer is reversing the z-order).

You are not supposed to be able to see drawing objects that are not in the
text layer when you are in Normal View, so that's not a problem. But the
fact that you can see things in Print Preview that are not printing is a
problem.

You should also go to the Fill tab where you chose "No Lines" and also
choose "No Fill". But you may need to remove the circles by making a copy
of your document and then deleting them.

Hope this helps"

Just wanted to thank Dayo and John and let others with this problem
know that John was correct. I chose to print the text boxes behind the
circles and they printed fine. Would be nice if MS fixed this bug!
