Printing to Acrobat pdf file

I have a Word (or Publisher) document with a VERY large JPEG graphic (say 40
Megs) When I try to convert it to an Acrobat pdf file, I get a blank square
where the picture should be.

If I drastically reduce the graphic size (say to a 3 meg jpeg) then the pdf
file is created properly, but with the poorer quality graphic.

Is there a limit to the file size that can be converted to acrobat? Is there a
setting or a way around this?

Using Word 2003
Acrobat 6 and 7
Win XP pro
Pentium 4 system with 1 gig of memory

Tanks for any help

I don't believe this is something you can control or change in
Word. In Acrobat, click on Edit | Preferences | Page Display,
and turn on the "Display large images" option. Can you see the
VERY large JPEG graphic now?

The preference was set that way. The problem is in creating the file; the
created file is very small.

I did discover if I created the figure as an eps file and used that, Acrobat
would create the pdf file.
