printing vertical cell borders

Using the Borders button on the toolbar, I have added vertical and
horizontal borders. Only the horizontal borders print. Why can't I get
the vertical borders to print?

I found the problem myself, but I still don't understand why it
happened: I checked the 'fit to one page wide' box so that all columns
fit on one page. Deselecting this allowed the vertical lines to
re-appear but at the cost of splitting columns on multiple pages.
So, I played with the sizing % box, instead of the 'fit to one page'
command, and i was able to accomplish what I needed.

Nevertheless, I'm not sure why fitting to one page should cause the
vertical lines not to print.
