Printing without shading

Dear All

Is it possible to shade words/areas in a word document, but to set the
print options so that when printing the shading remains on screen but
is removed from the printed document. I use Word 2000 at present.

Thanks very much

You can apply highlighting to text instead of shading. The display of
highlighting can be toggled on the View tab of Tools | Options, and when it
is not displayed, it doesn't print, either. This may not meet your needs,
however.

Another approach would be to apply the shading with a character style. The
character style can be toggled between having and not having shading; the
toggle could be programmed as a macro that would allow you to click a button
or press a keyboard shortcut to apply or remove the shading.
