Printing Word X on Kinko's Word 2001

I am having trouble getting a document with text and photos created on Mac
OS X 10.2 to be compatible for printing at Kinkos. They have Word 2001 for
Mac and my document doesn't come out with the same formatting on their
machine. I have tried to save it as a pdf file in Acrobat Adobe Reader
Version 5.0 as they suggested but when I opened it on their version 4.0, the
document was completely blank. I tried saving it as a rtf file and haven't
taken it in yet but based on my phone chat just now with a Kinko's employee,
who has never heard of a rtf file, I'm not holding out much hope.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I bought this machine and new software so
that I could be compatible with the world (because my last computer's
operating system and software was too old and not supported) and now I have
an OS system and software that is too advanced! And it's still not
compatible!

Help Please!

I suspect that the problem is that you are using fonts
not available on their system. Try to take in a word
document using just the standard system fonts installed
with OS 9 - use plain Geneva, or helvetica etc. that
should retain the formatting OK.

If you are using a pdf output from OS X Preview, this
could suffer from a similar fate, since these pdfs do not
embed fonts in the pdf, so you need to use the same fonts
as the printer's computer has available.

And try their PCs, too!: these may have more fonts and should have no
problems with a file generated on a Mac (use a PC-format floppy, zip
or CD). They also tend to be better set up generally in commercial
settings.
