Printing

I get blank page prints for text when using font set to Automatic Word.
The only way it will print is when I change the font on black text only
pages to
Font More Colors and pick the darkest in the range of black(dark) options.

Help please.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds as though your printer is out of
black ink.

Thanks for the reply Terry. No, both black cartridges are full. I had
checked this out with the Canon technicians some time ago and all tests &
functions with my i860 printer are up to specs. There seems to be some
problem with the communication from Word to my printer where it doesn't
accept the "Automatic" setting for the Font. I am still baffled.

I have had problems with Automatic (on both Canon and HP printers) but
slightly different. Normally Automatic will assume that you have a white
background and therefore use the inverse colour (black) for text. If you
change the background colour (say you shade it dark Blue), then the
Automatic setting should switch it to White. However, I have noticed that
this doesn't seem to work as well as it did when I ran Office 2003 in
Windows XPP. I am not sure if this is a Word, Vista or printer driver
problem though.

BTW, at the moment I am using a Canon IP5200 under Vista and don't see the
problem with Automatic when there is no shading: it prints black fine. It is
when printing with coloured shading behind that causes problems. Have you
tried deleting the printer and reinstalling it?

Hello Terry,

I have tried changing background to no avail. Your thought about it
possiblty being a driver problem could be accurate. I will hobble along the
old way and one day take my computer in for a hands-on look.
Thank you for your time and efforts.

Cheers,
