printing

I have a large file, almost 117,000 words, that consists of a series
of smaller files (chapters) that I pasted together into the larger
document. The text is formatted as 11 pt. Courier with 1.25" margins
top, left, right, and 1" bottom. The entire document with the
exception of the first page has a header with the name of the document
and the page number in the upper right hand corner.

When I attempt to print this as a whole document, the pages do not
line up and, in fact, the chapters print sometimes on the same page as
the end of the last chapter. Of course, if I print them as separate
files, I have no problem.

I suspect I need to do some additional command to accomplish the
correct chapter breaks, but I do not know what that might be. I'm
wondering of you know what I am leaving out.

Thanks,

batch

Use the Insert > Break menu item to insert a page break before each
chapter starts. Actually, the "Word way" to do this is to have each
chapter title be in some style (such as Heading 1) and define that style
to have the property that it always begins on a new page.

By the way, there is no need to "paste together" multiple chapters to
form a single document; you can create a Master Document which
conceptually binds all the files together. The Master Document approach
has the advantage that there is no big document - no document is larger
than a chapter. On the other hand one hears horror stories about things
going wrong with Master Documents, so I can't recommend it outright. m.
