I think I've done something really stupid. I was trying to update
cross-references in my footnotes, and I found a post here that correctly told
me to select all (Ctrl A) and then to hit F9. However, I didn't realize at
first that I should be doing that to the footnotes, and not my main text.
So, I pushed Ctrl A while I was in the main body of the text and then hit F9,
or possibly Ctrl F9. I'm not sure exactly which combination I used, but the
entire body of my text ended up being highlighted in gray and I couldn't make
it go away. So, I figured that I would just close my document and open it
again. But when I opened my document again, all that was left were my
footnotes! Now my document is 9 pages of footnotes with no text in the body.
I've tried using information from posts about recovering prior versions of
documents, but nothing seems to be working. Any ideas? I've lost a full
day's worth of writing!
