Prioritizing Projects

Marc

In our Project Server 2003 implementation, we have numerous individual
projects, and each project has been assigned (internally by our staff) a
priority between 1 and 5. I would like to somehow depict that
prioritization in the Project Server projects view, either by color coding
or a custom field (with values of 1 through 5). Is there a way to
accomplish that?

Thanks,
Marc

You would first need to create a custom enterprise Project field in the
Enterprise Global file to contain the internal priority number of each
project. You could probably use a Number or Text field for this purpose.
If you use an outline code field, you will see the internal priority field
as a dimension in the Portfolio Analyzer views, and can apply grouping on
this field in the Open from Project Server dialog in Microsoft Project
Professional.

Once you have created the custom field or outline code, each project manager
would need to open every project, select an internal priority number for the
project, and then click Collaborate - Publish - All Information to "push"
the new field data to PWA. The Project Server administrator would then need
to create a custom Project Center view that contains the new field or
outline code in the table, and apply grouping in the view on the new field.
Hope this helps.

That worked great!

One other question: in the default Projects view in PWA, the grantt bars
are blue. Any way of changing the color of those so that the different
project priorities have a different color associated with them?

Thanks!

When you apply grouping to a view in PWA, you can create a custom grouping
format that controls the colors of each grouping category in the task sheet
portion of the view, but you cannot apply grouping colors to the Gantt bars.
Sorry.
