Priority Field in Project | Information / MS Project

Is there any special use for this field or can users use this for
general prioritization without having to add a special Priority custom
field?

The leveling tool uses this to determine relative priority when working on
multiple projects.

Andy,

This field is used to set the priority of the project, priority which will
be used when the manager will run a leveling concerning several project.
If a resource is working at the same time on two tasks in 2 different
projects, the leveling feature is able to postpone one task after the other.
To determine which task will be postponed, you can use this priority field.
NB there is also a priority at the task level, but the priority at the
project level has priority over it...
