Prob adding more effort to resources on fixed dur task

B

Barry

I have a fixed duration task with multiple resources assigned. Each resource
has been assigned some effort to be performed within a three week task. None
exceed more than 15 hours. One week in, I see that I need to plan more time
on the task than originally baselined for each of the resources. When I
increase their effort by approximately 5-10 hours, the end date is
automatically readjusted into 2005. Why does this happen? How can I stop
the date from readjusting.

Notes:
* we do not have the option for auto-leveling on
* we do not have the option for auto-add resources or task on either
* I did not re-baseline when adding the additional effort since it was not
part of my orginal estimate.

On a Fixed Units or Fixed Work task, when you adjust the Work, Microsoft
Project automatically recalculates the Duration of the task. Thus, if you
increase the Work, Microosft Project will increase the Duration. If you do
not want this behavior, you should make the task a Fixed Duration task by
completing the following steps:

1. Double-click the task
2. Select the Advanced tab
3. Set the Task Type as Fixed Duration
4. Click OK

Hope this helps.

The task is setup as a fixed ruation task..... That is why I am perplexed by
the problem.
