Problem about Font Formatting (Project 2003)

R

raduga_fb

Hi all,

I am trying to change font size by selecting a row. Then I have got message ,

"You have exceeded the maximum number of cells or Gantt bars that can be
directly formatted in this view.
You can only directly format up to about 64,000 cells or Gantt bars in a view.
..."

But, I just select one row. This error occures sometimes. Even I installed
service pack 1.

Hi raduga_fb ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Try resetting the all by selecting the All button ( aboave the row ID
numbers, then Format/Font.../and in Colour: select Automatic. Then try
again with an individual task.

Hi Mike,

Selecting "Automatic" in Colur is not enough. I have to select also "Font
Style" and "Font Size". After that all fonts became same size & color & type.
Also file size is dramatically decreasing from ~33Mb to ~12Mb. But I am
losing formatted task (font color & size).

Anyway, I think this is a bug. I had a solution also. Cancelling default
Gant Chart and using new one from Global.mpt. As result of this, all font
became same size, type, color.

I hope Microsoft will fix this bug.

Thank you very much.

Hi raduga_fb,

I don't see this as a bug, it is a limitation of 64000 cells to be
formatted.

Hi Mike,

I mean, even I can not change font size of one (1) cell. But I can change
font size of another cells. Therefore I consired this is a bug.

Regards, thank you very much.

Hi raduga_fb ,

It sounds as though something is corrupt. We need to discover whether your
project is at fault, whether it is Project at fault, or whether it's your
PC. Does the symptom occur with other projects on this PC? Does it occur
with this project on other PCs? Does it occur with other projects on other
PCs? If you suspect a corrupt file, you could try the suggestions in FAQ
Item: 43. File Bloat? - Might be Corruption.

I've had the exact same problem... and I agree it may be a bug. Here's
my reasoning... I got the message cannot format more than 64000 cells. I
was trying to format ONE cell, and got the message. I then went to a
different cell and this time highlightes about 7-8 (however many columns I
have in Gantt Chart) all one task. It then let me format the 7 cells. I
then tried the ONE cell I tried earlier and got same message. So I closed
the file... re-opened and it... and let me format the ONE cell. The way the
message was appearing seemed sporadic... so I did some investigating. I
wasn't working in my big master file... I was working in one project file
and I counted the number of cells on the ENTIRE view and they totalled about
40,000.
I believe it to be a bug/corruption because if I don't even have 64,000
cells it can't hit the limit... can it?? Anyway, this is the FIRST time
i've ever read anyone else having this problem so I thought I'd throw my 2
cents in. When I determined something fishy was occuring, I took the file
in question off the server... saved to my desktop (.mpd)... then
re-published (.mpp) and it hasnt' given me the error since. I have NO CLUE
why this helped but it may be something to try raduga_fb...
