Problem accessing Analysis Server

Our automatic creation of SharePoint sites has been working for > 1 yr.
In the last 2 weeks, we are now realizing it is not.

We cannot even access the SharePoint Site by itself... i.e., when I
type:
http://<ServerName>/site/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments where
<ServerName> is the name of our server where we created the
SharePoint Site
it wants me to manually connect to the Server. I am asked for
this when I try to do my 'test url' link on the 'Connect to
SharePoint server page of the "Manage Windows SharePointServices"
Admin option also. The message I receive when I hit cancel is:

Server Error in '/' Application.
Access is denied.
Description: An error occurred while accessing the resources required
to serve this request. The server may not be configured for access to
the requested URL.
Error message 401.2.: You do not have permission to view this directory
or page using the credentials you supplied. Contact the Web server's
administrator for help.

I am one of the administrators and neither of us believes we have
changed a permission setting that would cause this error. I have also
read the Admin Guide, Chapter 6 (Managing Windows SharePoint Services),
but I do not find any troubleshooting advice and of course I have
searched this user group - but do not find a similar scenario... Our
project manager group is named 'Rndy Project Managers' and it does
have 'Save Project' as 'allow' on the permission settings.
we are using Project 2003 sp2.

It sounds as though the account that you use for WSSADMIN in COM+ may have
become disables. It's also possible that the account record may have been
removed from COM +. You should check for these possibilities.

1st, thx for your input. i too am one of those 'can't live without
this user group' fans!

my technie admin looked into your comments. his response:

When I displayed the identity it is there. My question is, our admin
group applied patches and booted the server, do I need to re-execute
the com+ exe? The exe says it creat/update COM+ Apps. If it's there can
I hurt something by doing it again?

i think we are both wary - i.e., we do not want to crash anything in
production!!!
