Problem After Conversion from Access 97 to 2000

I have created a database file about 4MB in Access 1997, we have about 5 people in the office to use it, and there is no log in process. There is only one Main Menu and I have placed links to many forms on it. I have recently converted it into Access 2000. After conversion we often get the error message, "You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. Your design changes will not saved" when we input data in some of forms. Actually, the entry is saved even this message keeps popping up. I have tried to fix this problem by clicking on Debug command and Compile RWATableQuery for all forms. However, it does not work. It is very annoying everyone.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated

This is a new feature of Access 2000. Access 97 would allow you to make
changes to the application while other people were using it. Access 2000
does not allow that. You must be the only one in the database (although it
doesn't need to be opened using the Exclusive switch) to make changes to the
forms, reports and so forth. There is no way around this.

The solution is to split the database into a Back-End (that has only the
tables and relationships) and a Front-End (that has everything else). There
is a database splitter wizard, but you can easily do it yourself.

Anyway, once the database is split, you can work on an Off-Line copy (say on
you hard-drive) and when the changes are made, copy the new application over
the old one. Everyone must be out of the application when you copy it up,
but that takes only a few minutes at most.
