Hello All,
Just yesterday I downloaded the MS Access Jet 4.0 service pack 7.0 from the
Microsoft website.
Since then, I have the following problem:
* I have an MS Access 2000 database in which I have links to a dBASE table
CONTACT1.DBF. After installing the
latest Jet 4.0 service pack 7, within MS Access 2000 program, when I
double-click and try to open the linked CONTACT1 table, nothing happens -
the table cannot be opened. MS Access doesnt show any any error message - it
just refuses to open the table. This problem happens just with this
particular CONTACT1
table. There are other dBASE tables that I have that I am able to link and
open properly.
* When I roll back to the Jet 4.0 service pack 6, this problem disappears.
The same database with the same linked table opens fine. This proves that
the problem is specific to Jet 4.0 service pack 7.
* I noticed that the new Jet 4.0 service pack 7 install updates the
MSXBDE40.dll to the latest version 4.0.6726.0. If I manually overwrite this
new dll with an older version of the DLL 4.0.5427.0 (the DLL from the Jet
4.0 service pack 6), this problem disappears - MS Access can open the linked
tables properly. Even though this trick fixes the problem, I am a little
uncomfortable with manually messing around with system DLLs.
Looking at some other postings on the Microsoft newsgroups, there seems to
be some bugs with linked table.
This problem can be reproduced VERY easily. If the Microsoft guys want to
reproduce the problem in their environment, I can provide them with the
necessary dBASE tables that they can link into an access database to
reproduce the problem. Let me know.
How to fix this problem? How do I get a hotfix for this problem?
Thanks,
Vinay Athma
