Problem after merging document

We use templates for everything. At one computer, when we
open a template, then merge the document, the resulting
merged document remains inactive (although up on the
screen) until we click out of it (don't have to close it).
When we click back in, it is active. Any suggestions?

Which version of Word, under which version of Windows, are
you running? Are you also running any addins? Anti-virus
software?
