Problem changing font colors in O2K

Problem: The tool icon for changing font colors is dead in both Word 2000
and Excel 2000. I can bring it back in either application by removing the
icon from the toolbar and then reinstalling it, but once I close down Word
or Excel, the problem will recur when I open it up again. I tried the
"Detect and Repair" function from the drop down menu (which I assume is the
same as the procedure offered in Add-Remove since they both ask for the CD)
but it made no difference.

Is there any way to fix this, registry hacks or otherwise, short of an
uninstall/reinstall?

I think a bug is triggered when you add the Change Font icon to the Standard
menu bar by dragging it from the Customize dialog box. If instead you put
the format toolbar up there along with the standard toolbar and then drag
and drop (after first setting the color to automatic), the problem goes
away, at least that is how I got it to work on two laptops that each had
this problem
