Problem color-coding messages by sender

Hi, I have successfully color-coded messages from my boss, "Joe Blow", to red
in my Outlook 2003 in-box. I have also color-coded messages from a director,
"Anna Smith", in green. I followed the steps of highlighting a message from
that sender and going through the Tools option, etc. on the menu bar.

My problem is that *any* messages coming from a user with the first name
"Joe" are color-coded in red. Also, *any* messages coming from a user with
the last name "Smith" are color-coded in green. I don't know what will
happen if I get a message from someone named "Joe Smith"! Has anyone
encountered / fixed this problem before?

Thanks for the quick answer. I either did not understand your reply, or my
original message was not clear.

To color-code certain recipients, I click on a message in my Inbox from that
sender ("Joe Blow"), go to Tools --> Organize --> Using Colors.

I see a line that says "Color messages" (dropdown) "from" "Blow, Joe" "in"
(dropdown to pick color), then a button that says "Apply Color". The link
you sent me did not help me understand what I need to do differently from
this procedure. Is there another area for formatting I need to fix to define
what the "From" field in my Inbox means? If so, I don't know how to do that.

I have the exact same problem... and whilst I understand what Diane Poremsky
has suggested this does not work either as exchange resolves the email
address back to the original "Display Name". I.e. (e-mail address removed)
resolves back to Jones, Bob:IT (LDN).

The organize feature using colors is essentially useless with this problem
as any emails with the same first name as those with an organize rule
configured are also applied.

This is really irritating, but I think I may have figured something out.
Once you have the color-coded rule set up for "Joe Blow", click on the
Automatic Formatting button in the "Ways to Organize Inbox". Select the rule
for "Mail received from Joe Blow" and click on the Condition button. Click
the button that says From to select Joe Blow's name from your address book.
This seemed to do the trick for me. I was having the same problem.

Erin, that worked!

Well done and thanks. Needless to say, Microsoft should fix that. They
should also fix the fact I did not get an email response to your reply (which
I had requested).

Anyway, I'll stop complaining now ..
