Problem connecting MS Project 2002 Pro to MS Project Server 2002 from different machine

Hi,

When trying to log on to MS Project Server 2002 from MS Project 2002
Pro (located on different machines) using project server
authentication, I get the following error message:

"Cannot connect.

Microsoft Project was unable to establish a connection with the
selected Microsoft Project Server. This could be cuased by a loss of
network connectivity, invalid username or password, lack of an
enterprise global template, problems with the Microsoft Project Server
or database, or your Microsoft Project Server may not have enterprise
features enabled."

That's not very precise. The only thing I seem to be missing is the
enterprise global template, but since I am able to connect from MS
Project 2002 Pro running on the server I assume that's not the
problem.

The problem occurs only when connecting from another computer; when
connecting from the same computer the server is located on - the
connection is established without problems.

Some details about the configuration:
- both computers are located in the same domain
- server - Win2k Server SP4, client - Win2k Pro SP4 and WinXP Pro
- SQL server 2k SP3
- system default locales are same (Enghish) on both machines
- both sql server and sql clients are configured to use tcp/ip only

Any ideas are welcome - pls email me at (e-mail address removed).

Thanks in advance!
SK

Did you make sure you can ping the Project Server from the
Client (Professional) machine?

Ping it using the URL and then using the IP address of the
Server.

If you can ping the IP but not the Hostname (server name)
then you should make an entry in your HOSTS file to enable
resolution of the Project Server Host name.
