Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi everyone,

Please help solve problem with converting .doc to .pdf. What i'm trying to do: a word file - sample automator workflow - save as pdf file..orientation.

Error it's spitting out: "The action "Save Word Documents" could not be loaded because it could not be located." Try reinstalling the action.

Need a step by step advise - i'm an excel dummy.

Thanks a lot, guys

An Automator workflow is a collection of applescript fragments named
"actions", each of which is a separate code fragment in a separate file.

The workflow you are working on is calling for an action named "Save Word
Documents" which cannot be found on your hard disk.

Chances are, you are using a Word 2008 Automator Action that is relying on
an Apple Automator Action from OS 10.6 that does not exist in 10.5.

I am using OS 10.6 and I can't find any action named "Save Word Documents"
either...

Sorry

Thanks for your time, John. Guess I'm gonna have to use my PC Excel 2007 (run it from Parallel) to keep working comfortably with my files.

Have a good day.

Well, Parallels is a great product: I have multiple virtual machines here.
But I rarely use them except for specific customer work.

What are you trying to do?

Cheers

Hi,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by .pdf..orientation. Do you mean you
want to control whether you want portrait or landscape orientation when
saving?

The Save Word Documents action does not offer orientation. You can save
the document as PDF, but your document is going to keep whatever
orientation it had before the save.

I don't see any Automator Action that affects page setup, which is where
the orientation would be controlled.

If you print Document from Acrobat or reader you can set to
automatically center and and orientation with one check box.

You set the the orientation originally by setting orientation in page
setup in Word first then save the PDF.

Hi Jim,

All i'm trying to do is to convert word doc to pdf or/and convert excel doc to pdf format. That's it. It was so easy in PC Office and it is SO hard in Mac

I have both PC and Mac versions of Excel and Word on this Mac (the PC ones
are in Parallels)...

I know it is a LOT easier to save as PDF on the Mac: so much so that I
usually use the Mac versions of Word and Excel to do this.

But you are not giving us enough detail on what you're trying to do for us
to help you.

On the Mac, it's literally "File>Save As>PDF..."

You will get a PDF that is exactly what you get from Word when you print.
The key to it is that the Word document must print correctly first: you
cannot make any changes on the way between Word and PDF.

But you won't tell us what you're trying to do, so we can't help you.
