Problem Converting from Back-up Disk

Donna

The computer that Office 2007 was originally installed on has died. I am
trying to put Office 2007 on another computer from the back up disk that I
paid an extra $35.00 for.

Installation is fine, but I seem to be caught in some kind of activation
loop when trying to convert the trial version on the backup disk to the full
version. I choose to convert, type in my 25 digit product key (almost have it
memorized), get the green check, then I'm told the configuration is
successful and to close all Office programs and reopen to then activate my
product. I then choose to activate over the internet (phone not an option),
connect to internet, type in the product key and then I am back to
configuring...sucessful...close and reopen.....activate by
internet.....connect...type...configure.....you get the picture.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times. Deleted the OPA12.dat file,
checked the time settings. I am in the middle of a huge project that uses
primarily Word 2007. I need to get this issue resolved as quickly as possible.

All help is appreciated

Did you pay separately for Office or was it part of the cost of the
computer? I am not saying this is the problem, but it may be possible that
you are not authorized to install that OEM version as provided by the
manufacturer on a different machine. The fact that they gave you (well let
you buy) those disks may mean that you had the rights to re-install Office
on that original machine in the event of a problem there.

In any case I believe there is a telephone activation number. I don't
have it, but if you do some searching on "activate" you are likely be able
to find it.

Good Luck

Thanks for your response Jason. Office 2007 was a separate purchase online
and we paid to also receive the backup disk. I know there is an activation
number but since the backup disk installs as a trial activating by phone is
not an option and the wizard will not show me the phone number.

Hi Donna,

The backup CDs shouldn't, ordinarily, install as a trial,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927920/en-us?FR=1
but the convert in place function isn't always perfect, so there may some left over bits from the previous version. Assuming you're
not using an OEM edition (which doesn't allow moving from one computer to another after activation)

If you have a retail edition, have restarted the PC before trying to install, have checked for other Office 2007 series products
listed in Add/Remove programs and are uninstalling rather than trying to use a system restore point this article may help with
removing the old parts
