Problem correcting license error

I have tried to follow the instructions for fixing
the "Microsoft Access can't start because there is no
license for it on this machine.", but have been
unsuccessful.

I am running Windows NT4, so I renamed the font and tried
to reinstall Access. When I select the Microsoft Office 97
Professional in the Add/Remove Programs dialog box I do
not get a Reinstall option. I am asked to put my disk in
drive E. I don't have the installation disk. This software
was installed years ago before drive E became my zip
drive, so even if I had an installation CD it wouldn't be
in drive E.

Due to mismatched ODBC components, I just installed MDAC
2.7 Refresh. Did this cause the problem and how do I fix
it?

Thanks,
Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann,

1. Run Regedit.exe from the Run command on the Start menu.
2. Navigate to the following Registry Key:

\\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Licenses\8CC49940-3146-11CF-97A1-00AA00424A9F

3. If there is no \Retail key under the above path, create a new key as
follows.

Key Name
-------
Retail

Default Value
-------------
yubcdcprktpjtapmmfdacmupasbhscddncgp

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please

Hi Eric,

I have followed your instructions below, but I don't find
the same registry key that you have specified.

I only have \\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Licenses\57CBF9E0-6AA7-
11cf-8ADB-00AA00C00905. There is no Retail Key under this
path. Should I create a retail key even though the path is
different than what you specified?

When I highlight the 57CBF9E0-6AA7-11cf-8ADB-00AA00C00905,
the default value is aahakhchghkhfhaamghhbhbhkbpgfhahlfle.

Regards,
Mary Ann
