Problem creating Filter on Status column

M

Matt Kennedy

What I want in the end is a report that lists only the tasks that are
idenfied as late using the Status column. I first want to create a filter
that would filter all but tasks that are identified as Late in the Status
column. The problem is if I go to More Filters...>New> and attempt to create
a new filter and select the Status Field to filter on no matter what Test I
select and no matter what Value I enter I get an error when clicking OK on
the Filter Definition Window as follows:

"That Entry is Not Valid"
"The test value cannot be used with the field for the data you want to find
or filter for"

This is a simple one line filter as follows:

Field Name Test Value
Status Equals 2

I have tested for values in this Status field in other cases (when creating
a customized field that displays graphical indicators) so I know that it is
possible to test for values in this field. The only unusual thing about this
field is that it displays status values such as "Late" and "Completed" but
actually stores numerics such as 0 for Complete, 1 for On Schedule, 2 for
Late, etc. I even tried setting up the filter to test on the alpha value of
Late and also the numeric 2 to no avail.

Any ideas? Is it not possible to setup a filter on this column for some
reason? If I insert the column in a view and then click the "AutoFilter"
button I can manually filter on this column no problem. Thoughts?

Thanks a million in advance.

Hi Matt,
If you can create an autofilter on the column you can easily save an
autofilter as a regular filter and save yourself a bunch of grief.
Apply the autofilter filtering the table as you need. Click on the
drop-down at the top of one of the columns and choose Custom...
The criteria should be already filled in. Click the save button in the
Custom dialog box to save the Autofilter as a regular filter. You should now
be able to apply that filter at will and also use that custom filter in
report definitions.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie, once again I thank you! Interesting how I can save the filter but
can't create one that appears to have the same selection criteria. Oh, well
as long as I have a method that works! Must be something about the unique
characteristics of that field "behind the scenes". Thanks again Julie!
