Problem creating TC fields

G

G.R. Toro

As a workaround to the problem in my previous post, I tried to enter the TC
field for the missing heding by hand. As soon as I type TC, the field
become regular text ({} and all). I tried doing this on several locations
within the document, with the same effect.

Is this normal?

Is it related to my other problem?

Again, I am using Word XP.

Thanks in advance

You mean that the field shading disappears? Yes, this is normal. Also,
TC fields are formatted as hidden, which means that they will
disappear unless you have hidden text displayed.

Note that the easiest way to insert TC fields is via the keyboard
shortcut ALT+SHIFT+o; this opens a dialog box which allows you to type
the text (or use whatever was selected when you pressed the keys) and
specify the desired TOC level.

I'm uncertain as to what you mean by "regular text". It is certainly correct
that a TC field is ALWAYS hidden text (same as an RD field). So if you don't
have the display of hidden text enabled, these fields have the disconcerting
habit of disappearing.
