Problem Double Clicking Word Documents

I have Office 2003. Something has happened to my Word
Program. Files that I have created and saved using Word
open extremely slowly (about 25 seconds) when I double
click the file. If I open the Word application and then
select the file through the program, it opens normally
(about 1 second). I recently reinstalled the Office and
think that the problem may have occurred after the
reinstallation. Any suggestions or help will be
appreciated.

Two things to try:
1. If there are any mapped network drives that are not available,
disconnect them.
2. Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Symantec/Norton AntiVirus.
