I have an Outlook Express problem with one of the accounts we have. The
account is accessible via the actual address of the account -
(e-mail address removed). And we also have a domain name
www.domainname.co.uk managed by NetBenefit for both the web site and emails.
Generally emails received use the domain name in the address –
(e-mail address removed) but there are occasions when the emails are
addressed directly to (e-mail address removed). .
This situation has been in operation for several years without any problems
but suddenly we have a problem and that is when mail is downloaded to OE on
the PC it doesn’t download those using the address with the domain name.
I’ve tested it many times and get the same result. Obviously I checked the
forwarding link at NetBenefit and it was ok. Also I checked the webmail on
Orange and all emails received are displayed there, and I set up a test on
another PC and it works there without any problems.
I’ve used McAfee virus scan on the PC and it found nothing unusual. I also
used the restore feature putting everything back before the problem started.
This made no difference either.
I have no idea what could be causing it, however, there is another problem
that started about the same time that may be connected and is equally odd.
We are getting a considerable number of messages coming in from Mail
Delivery Systems saying that the message sent could not be delivered. What
is really odd here is that the senders of the emails that prompted these
messages are not known to us. It’s clear that someone has accessed our
account and created a number of email addresses. How they got around the
password I've no idea. They then used these addresses to send mail to
fictitious addresses prompting the large number of Not Delivered Messages
that appear on our webmail server. Unfortunately these are increasing each
day.
My apologies for putting these two problems together, but they both occurred
around the same time. Whilst I cannot see any connection between them it just
seemed to be too coincidental.
I feel that the only real choice I have is to create another account, but I
would appreciate any comments or suggestion anyone may have.
Cheers
